Case exponence (Synja Khanty)

ExpMono: Formatives marking nouns and pronouns are monoexponential.

(1) xɔ̄t ‘house’

(2) xɔ̄t-ǝt ‘houses’

(3) xɔ̄t-ǝn ‘in the house’

(4) xɔ̄t-ǝt-n ‘in the houses’ (Onina 2009: 25)

Case is expressed by suffixes in Synja Khanty, and these morphemes cannot express other grammatical features such as number or verbal categories (e.g. tense, mood) (cf. Honti 1984: 60–68, Onina 2009: 22–28).
