Case agreement on noun adjuncts (Synja Khanty)

NoNXCaseAgr: There is no case agreement between head nouns and their adjuncts in general.


(1) ūtalta-ti nēŋ-em ant-em-a

teach-ptc.prs woman-1sg mother-1sg-lat

‘to my mother, who is a teacher’ (S. O.)


(2) wɔ̄j wēl-ti lūxs-em-ǝn pisma-jn xanš-l-ajm.

animal kill-ptc.prs man friend-1sg-loc  I letter-loc write-prs-pass.1sg

‘I was writen a letter by my hunter friend.’ (S. O.)


In Synja Khanty, neither noun adjuncts, nor adjectival, numeral, and determiner modifiers agree with their noun heads (cf. Honti 1983, 1984, 1993, Abondolo 1998, Csepregi 1998, Nikolaeva 1999).
