Inclusivity in verbal inflection (Surgut Khanty)


Pl1=Pl1: First-person plural does not have an inclusive/exclusive distinction.

(1) qɔ̄ʌtaɣ wɔ̄č-nam mən-ʌ-əmən (mā nüŋ, ʌüw).
tomorrow town-apr go-prs-1du I and you I and he/she
’The two of us are going to the town tomorrow (you and me, or me and he/she).’

(2) qɔ̄ʌtaɣ wɔ̄č-nam mən-ʌ-əw (mā nīn, ʌīn, nēŋ, ʌəɣ).
tomorrow town-apr go-prs-1pl I and you_two they_two you they
’We are going to the town tomorrow (me and the two of you, or me and the two of them).’

In the Surgut Khanty verb conjugation, the dual and the plural first person forms include the speaker alongside the addressee and/or people outside the immediate communicative situation (third parties).
