Adjectives as verbs (Synja Khanty)

AdjNotVMorph: Adjectives are distinct from verbs in their morphological and syntactic behavior.


(1) jɔ̄x wɔ̄j wēl-l-ǝt.

In Synja Khanty, verbs are marked for the person and number of the subject, tense, mood and definiteness (Honti 1984: 47‒55, Sz. Kispál ‒ F. Mészáros 1980: 34‒44). Adjectives in the predicative function agree with the subject, but (unlike verbs) only in number (Onina 2009: 29).
