Distinctions within the future tense (Hungarian)

1Fut: A distinct grammatical tense is used to express future tense.

(1) este ír-ni fog-ok egy level-et.

evening write-inf fut-1sg a letter-acc

‘In the evening, I am going to/will write a letter.’

(2) este ír-ok egy level-et.

evening write-prs.1sg a letter-acc

‘In the evening, I am going to/will write a letter.’

The future tense can be expressed by the present tense form of the verb or with the auxiliary + infinite construction in Hungarian. The temporal distance from the reference point in the discourse is not reflected in the use of these constructions (cf. Kugler 2000a: 104‒123, Kiefer 2003: 212‒222).
