Past tense (Synja Khanty)

1Pst: There is one grammatically distinct past tense.


(1) wēr-l-əm.

do-prs-1sg

‘I’m doing something.’ (Onina 2009: 35)


(2) wēr-s-əm.

do-pst-1sg

‘I did something.’ (Onina 2009: 35)


In the Synja Khanty conjugation system, the only difference concerning tense is between the past and the non-past (Nikolaeva 1999a: 26‒27). The past tense is marked by the -s suffix. Other morphologically marked past tense is not known in the language (Honti 1984: 51‒52, Onina 2009: 33‒41).
