Use of copula with adverbial predicate (Hungarian)

AdvCop: Use of the copula with adverbial predicates is always required.


(1) én a tanszék-en vagy-ok.

I the department-sup cop-prs.1sg

‘I’m at the department..’


(2) laura a tanszék-en van.

Laura the department-sup cop.prs.3sg

‘Laura is at the department..’


(3) laura a tanszék-en vol-t.

Laura the department-sup cop-pst.3sg

‘Laura was at the department.’


In Hungarian, adverbial predicates are used with copulas in every tense, number and person (cf. Kenesei et al. 1998: 58‒64, Lengyel 2000b).
