Verb form of reported clause (Synja Khanty)

RepdVBlcd: Although direct and indirect reported clauses display some differences, the verb of the reported clause appears in base form in both types.

(1) miša jāsta-s: „mā xalewat wōš-a mān-l-ǝm.”

Misha say-pst3sg I tomorrow town-lat go-prs-1sg

‘Misha said: “I’m going to the town tomorrow”’ (S. O.)

(2) miša jāsta-s, luw xalewat wōš-a mān-l.

Misha say-pst3sg he tomorrow town-lat go-prs.3sg

‘Misha said that he was going to the town the next day.’ (S. O.)

In Synja Khanty, indirect citations are expressed by non-conjunctional subordinations (2), where the verb is in the same (base) form as in direct citations (1). The verb form may only vary according to the person of the subject (S. O.).
