Basic word order of adverbs of manner (Surgut Khanty)

MnrOV: The basic word order is MnrOV.


(1) ʌüw ńāťələk-kə ōwpi pūnč-əɣ.

he/she quiet-tra door open-pst.3sg

‘He/she opened the door quietly.’ (Csepregi 2011: 17.)


In Surgut Khanty, the predicate is typically at the end of the sentence, the subject is at the beginning, while the other elements are put between them. The object comes right before the verb, and adverbials (adverbs of manner among others) precede the object.
