SOV: Basic subordinate word order is SOV.


(1) jula lāw-әs, Peter nēpak χańśi.
Julia speak-pst.3sg Peter book write.prs.3sg
‘Julia said that Peter is writing a book. (T. M.)

In Northern Mansi, the word order in subordinate clauses is the same as the word order of the independent clause. The word order, however, is not fixed: it can be changed depending on the information structure of the clause (Rombandeeva 1979).
