Types of relativizers (Northern Mansi)

InitRzerPro: Relative clauses are marked by the use of an obligatory clause-initial relative pronoun.

RzerSuff: Relative clauses are marked by the use of a relativizing suffix that attaches directly or indirectly to the root of the verb stem.

(1) ta kuťuw χotjut χorti at purχati.
the dog who bark.prs.3sg not bite.prs.3sg
‘The dog, which barks, does not bite.’ (S. D.)

(2) χort-ne kuťuw at purχati.
bark-ptc.prs dog not bite.prs.3sg
‘The barking dog does not bite.’ (S. D.)

Although relative clause subordination has appeared in Northern Mansi (1), usually participle constructions are used to express relative meanings (2)(Rombandeeva 1979).
