Syntactic relations within the adpositional phrase (Northern Mansi)

Adp=NNonGov: Adpositions do not behave like verbs. Their complements appear in base form without inflection.

(1) saša jot-e
Sasa with-3sg
‘with Sasa’ (S. D.)

(2) taw jot-e
he/she with-3sg
‘with him/her’ (S. D.)

(3) saša māγs-e
Sasa for-3sg
‘for Sasa’ (S. D.)

(4) taw māγs-e
he/she for-3sg
‘for him/her’ (S. D.)

In Northern Mansi, the complement of the postposition is always in its base form (1), (3). The case marking is evident from pronominal constructions (see (2) and (4)), which also require the nominative case, despite the fact that personal pronouns (unlike nouns) have accusative forms.
