Number marking on nouns (Surgut Khanty)

NumSuffAn: Grammatical number is marked morphologically using analytic suffixes (monoexponential; i. e., the suffix expresses only the number).

(1a) qɔ̄t-nam

house-apr

‘to the house’

(1b) qɔ̄t-ɣən-nam

house-du-apr

‘to two houses’

(2a) āmp-nat

dog-com

‘with the dog’

(2b) āmp-ət-nat

dog-pl-com

‘with dogs’

In Surgut Khanty, the singular is unmarked (1a)–(2a), while the dual and the plurals are marked. The number markers are attached directly to the stem and the case markers follow them (1b)–(2b).
