In Hungarian, there is no unique grammatical category for the expression of evidentiality. To indicate second­hand evidence, various lexical expressions like adverbs (e.g. állítólag ‘supposedly’) and specific matrix clauses (e.g. úgy tudom ‘as far as I know’; úgy tűnik ‘it seems’; beszélik, hogy ‘they say that’) can be used (cf. Kugler 2012).
