(1) a fá-nál magas-abb ház

the tree-ade tall-comp house

‘the house, which is taller than the tree’

(2) a nálad magas-abb fa

the you.ade tall-comp tree

‘the tree, which is taller than you’

In Hungarian, the standard of the non-subordinate comparative constructions precede the adjective, which takes the comparative -bb suffix (1)–(2) (cf. Lengyel 2000a: 149‒150, Kenesei et al. 1998: 99‒100).
