PossAff: The use of affixes on the possessed is obligatory for all nouns.

(1) a lány telefon-ja

the girl phone-3sg

‘the girl’s phone’

(2) a lány-nak a telefon-ja

the girl-dat the phone-3sg

‘the girl’s phone’

In Hungarian, the noun denoting the possessed entity in the possessive construction always takes a personal suffix, irrespective of how the possessor appear linguistically in the sentence (cf. É. Kiss 2003: 82‒88).
