Tense agreement (Hungarian)

NoDepTense: The tense of the dependent predicate does not depend on the tense of the main predicate; it appears in the same tense as it would in an independent clause (natural tense).

(1) hall-ott-am, hogy jössz.

hear-pst-1sg that come.prs.2sg

‘I have heard that you were coming.’

(2) hall-ott-am, hogy meg-jö-tt-él.

hear-pst-1sg that pref-come-pst-2sg

‘I have heard that you had arrived.’

In Hungarian, the subordinate predicate always reflects real time.
