Word order of independent personal pronouns (Hungarian)

PPV: Independent personal pronouns precede the verb in nominative constructions.

(1) én elég gyakran jár-ok ide.

I quite often come-prs.1sg here

’I come here quite often.’

(2) ti nem ve-tt-etek tej-et.

you neg buy-pst-2pl milk-acc

‘You did not buy milk.’

In Hungarian, pronominal subjects (in the first (1) and the second (2) person, in the singular (1) and the plural (2)) are put before both intransitive (1) and transitive verbs (2). To sum up, pronominal subjects precede the verb in neutral sentences (cf. Lengyel 2000c).
