In Northern Mansi, the negation of the predicate is expressed by a negative particle (cf. (1) and (2)), which always appears before the verb (if the verb has a prefix, it is put between the prefix and the verb) (Kálmán 1976:67-8). The substantive verb is negated by the āťim particle. The negation of the entire clause, however, is expressed by the āťi particle (Kálmán 1976: 68).
