Syntheticism of verbal inflection (Surgut Khanty)

CpW=4: The category-per-word value is 4.

(1) pan-ʌə-ɣəʌ-am

put-prs-du.obj-1sg

‘I put those two’

(2) pan-ʌ-oj-mən

put-prs-pass-1du

‘the two of us are put (somewhere)’

In Surgut Khanty, the following categories can be expressed on the verb form: the number and person of the subject, tense, voice, mood, and the number of the object. The active voice, the present tense, the indicative mood, singular objects and the 3Sg forms of the indeterminate conjugation are marked with zero morphemes. The examples (1) and (2) have three distinct suffixes in the verb forms. The person marker is synthetic in a sense that the suffix codes the person and number of the agent simultaneously. Thus, the maximal category-per-word value is 4.
