NoDepTense: The tense of the dependent predicate does not depend on the tense of the main predicate; it appears in the same tense as it would in an independent clause (natural tense).
(1a) mīša jāst-əɣ, məttə ʌüw qoʌtaɣiʌ wɔ̄č-nam mən-ʌ.
Misha say-pst.3sg cnj he tomorrow town-apr go-prs.3sg
‘Misha said that he was going to the town tomorrow.’
(1b) mīša jāst-əʌ, məttə ʌüw mɔ̄ʌqatʌ wɔ̄č-nə woʌ.
Misha say-prs.3sg cnj he yesterday town-loc be.pst.3sg
‘Misha said that he had been in the town yesterday.’
In Surgut Khanty, there is no tense agreement in complex sentences.
