Non-periphrastic causatives (Synja Khanty)

MorfNonpfrCC: Causatives are expressed using a non-periphrastic, morphological strategy.

(1) ńāwrem pasan-an ɔ̄mas-l.

child table-loc sit-prs.3sg

‘The child is sitting by the table.’ (S. O.)

(2) ānťe-l ńāwrem-ǝl pasan-a ɔ̄mas-lal-li.

mother-3sg child-3sg table-lat sit-caus-prs-obj.3sg

‘The mother makes her child sit to the table.’ (S. O.)

In Synja Khanty, morphological causation is coded by the derivation suffix –lal (-l, -alt, -pt, -t; cf. Nikolaeva 1999a 29‒30, 40, Honti 1984: 55). If the arguments of the construction are expressed by nominals (2), they take the nominal case (S. O.).
