Personal pronouns as subjects (Synja Khanty)

PPDrop: The presence of an independent pronoun in subject position is not required to replace a nominal agent.


(1) tam wɔ̄š-n ul-l-ǝm.

I this town-loc live-prs-1sg

’I live in this town.’  (Onina 2009: 50)


(2) tam wɔ̄š-n ul-l-ǝm.

this town-loc live-prs-1sg

’I live in this town.’   (S. O.)


In Synja Khanty, the personal pronoun can be dropped in every number and person when it is the subject of the sentence.
