Use of copula with adverbial predicate (Synja Khanty)

AdvCopNonPres: The copula does occur with adverbial predicates, with the exception of unmarked predicate forms

(1) jɔ̄l-n.

I home-loc

‘I am at home.’ (S. O.)

(2) luw jɔ̄l-n.

(s)he home-loc

’(S)he is at home.’ (S. O.)

(3) jɔ̄l-n ū-s-ǝm.

I home-loc cop-pst-1sg

’I was at home.’ (S. O.)

In Synja Khanty, the adverbial predicative construction does not entail the copula if the sentence is in the present tense. The copula is compulsory in past tense sentences with adverbial predicates (S. O., F. L.).
