AdjN: The attributive adjective precedes the modified noun.


(1) tam jalǝp, ūn xɔ̄t-n ūl-l-ǝm.

I this new big house-loc live-prs-1sg

’I live in this new, big house.’ (Onina 2009: 53)


(2) aś-em šuŋǝt

father-1sg deceased

’my late father’ (R-M. E., p. c.)


The adjective always precedes the head noun in Synja Khanty (Onina 2009: 29, Nikolaeva 1999a: 20‒21, Honti 1984: 90‒91). The only exception is the word šuŋǝt ’deceased’ (DEWOS 291), which follows the head noun (2).
