Appearing alongside the numeral and noun, sortal numeral classifiers provide numeral constructions with additional grammatical, rather than semantic, information.[1]
Types:
NoClsfr: The language does not have sortal numeral classifiers.
ClsfrNum: Sortal numeral classifiers precede the numeral.
NumClsfr: Sortal numeral classifiers follow the numeral.
When a language displays both types, two values can be listed. If one type is dominant, a slash (/) can separate the two values, with the dominant value appearing first; if neither is dominant, they are listed with an ampersand (&) separating the two.
[1] Compare to mensural numeral classifiers, which provide additional semantic information, such as a glass of water.
